When you purchase a battery charger, what does that mean? You have a dead battery. Right? This charger will not work if your battery is dead. There is a feature built in that will not allow it to recognize a battery with 0 charge. If I had a low battery, I could probably get it to start anyway. If you want to spend $100 for a batter charger that will not charge a dead battery, this is the product for you.

Thank God Amazon has wonderful customer service. They are giving me a full refund and paying for the return shipping.

This charger used to work great. The cord storage lugs fell off the first day but that did not affect how the unit charged so I just assumed this was 21st century design quality. However, after about 20 charges the charger ceased to sense the battery state during a charge. Of course, no feedback means no control. The charger continues to display whatever the initial charge state and continues to charge. Turn the charger off and the battery sense will eventually display the battery state. So I thought I would take advantage of the stated 5 year warranty and send it in to Schumacher for repair. OOPS! Forgot about 21st century responsibility. Schumacher requires the purchaser to send it the registration card to 'activate' the warranty. Since I did not and will not adhere to this ridiculous concept of you can pay for the product but you've got to pay for the stamp to get the warranty, the manufacture has managed to wriggle out of their responsibility to design a true 5 year life product. So, I'm shopping for any brand of charger which is NOT made by Schumacher and when I buy it, I'll buy a stamp and send them a copy of the receipt.

Great to keep in the garage. Works just like it says it will. Used it to jump a car battery zapped by extreme winter temps...did it within five minutes. The only downfall is that the electrical cord is very short. If I had to do it over again for convenience sake, I may have went with something that held a charge so that it could be taken with you/and you didn't have to carry an extension cord at all times. Still worth having though!

Very easy use, set the battery type and charge amps, and you're good to go. I have used this now on both a marine starting and marine deep cycle battery, and it does it's job with ease. Seeing the battery % really makes this easy to use. The only thing is that sometimes when you hook it up to a deep cycle battery it doesn't read correctly, where it will show really low battery %, like 10%. This is corrected by taking off the ground for a couple of seconds, and then replacing it. If you are charging an old battery for the first time, and aren't sure of where it stands, be ready for this possibility.

I found two problems with this item: (1) The instruction booklet is unintelligible to the average person; (2) Neither I nor my car savvy friend were able to jump start a lawn tractor battery (although his 15-year-old Schumacher charger worked perfectly). a friend let me use his charger, which was the same model as the one i later bought thru amazon. i liked it and asked him where he got it and he said "walmart". well, walmart didn't carry it, it only carried models lower on the totem pole, and not very cheap, either.

so i googled the make and model and found one on amazon. when i went to the "used" chargers, i found my schumacher, that sells for $82 new, for $22+. $28 total, and 6 days later, i have a great charger and when i first opened the box, i found the original box was supplied, and the charger inside was pristine. it also contained the manual. i'm happy!

I had 10 12V 8A batteries that I didn't know the condition of and it didn't charge any of them. I am still waiting to charge a battery I know is re-chargeable so that I can tell if the charge works properly.

This charger is electronic. For charging batteries it works fine. As a 12vdc power supply it will not work. You cannot connect anything to it other than a battery.
